Wisconsin has beaten Purdue in 16 consecutive games and has nine wins in a row in West Lafayette. If Wisconsin is to make a championship push in Year 1 with Fickell, this is a game the Badgers need to win. The schedulers moved this game to a Friday night, adding some sizzle as both teams take center stage to open Big Ten play. Purdue coach Jeff Brohm left for his alma mater Louisville, and now former Illinois defensive coordinator Ryan Walters takes over with his first head-coaching gig. It was a big moment for the program, even though Michigan subsequently hammered Purdue 43-22 for the conference title and then LSU crushed the Boilermakers 63-7 in the Citrus Bowl. Overview: Purdue broke through to reach the Big Ten championship game from a mediocre West Division last season. The Badgers haven’t lost to the Cornhuskers since, winning nine consecutive games. Their only league title game appearance came in 2012, when Wisconsin hammered them 70-31. The Cornhuskers have finished with six consecutive losing record and have largely been irrelevant in the Big Ten since they joined the conference in 2011. Despite flaming out in the NFL with an 11-27 record for the Carolina Panthers, Rhule led program turnarounds previously at Temple and Baylor. Overview: Rhule, like Fickell, is a first-year coach in the Big Ten who is a proven commodity at the college level. 18 at Camp Randall Stadium, time TBDĢ022 record: 4-8, 3-6 (6th, Big Ten West) The Hoosiers have added 22 transfers this offseason, which is the most among Big Ten teams. Wisconsin will be making its first trip to Bloomington since 2017 against a program that will look entirely different thanks to the transfer portal. The Hoosiers have since fallen back to earth and are just 2-16 in the Big Ten over the past two seasons. ![]() Overview: Indiana posted back-to-back winning seasons under Tom Allen in 2019-20 for the first time since the 1993-94 campaigns. 4 at Memorial Stadium, time TBDĢ022 record: 4-8, 2-7 (6th, Big Ten West)Ĭoach (record): Tom Allen (30-40, 7 years) Wisconsin outscored Northwestern 77-14 in the past two meetings. 11 at Camp Randall Stadium, time TBDĢ022 record: 1-11, 1-8 (7th Big Ten West) And the only reason it was that good is because Rutgers posted 66 points against lowly FCS foe Wagner. Last season, Rutgers ranked 124th in scoring offense (17.4 points per game), which was one spot behind Iowa. It’ll be a homecoming affair sandwiched between Big Ten West opponents Purdue and Iowa. Neither the Scarlet Knights nor the Terrapins move the needle much, and this game probably won’t, either. ![]() Overview: USC and UCLA joining the Big Ten in 2024 ought to be a whole lot more scintillating to Wisconsin fans than when Rutgers and Maryland came on board in 2014. CTĢ022 record: 4-8, 1-8 (7th, Big Ten East Division) The Eagles, who ranked 34th nationally in scoring offense (32.7 points per game), added Tulsa transfer quarterback Davis Brin and return top receiver Khaleb Hood. This isn’t the kind of matchup that will stir the masses, but it is Wisconsin’s last nonconference game before diving into Big Ten play. Overview: Georgia Southern lost to Buffalo in the Camellia Bowl last season but did beat a bad Nebraska team in Lincoln, which marked the last game of coach Scott Frost’s tenure. CTĢ022 record: 6-7, 3-5 (T-4th, Sun Belt East Division)Ĭoach (record): Clay Helton (6-7 52-31, 9 years overall) ![]() How Wisconsin is changing under Luke Fickell: ‘We’re not here just to win 8 games’ 12.
